MARMORE WATERFALL - VISIT TO SPOLETO - LIVING NATIVITY SCENE IN BETTONA

Day 2 - 01 JANUARY 2027

WATERFALL OF THE MARMORE - VISIT OF SPOLETO - LIVING CRIB OF BETTONA

10:30 a.m. - Meeting with the bus driver at the hotel and departure for the Marmore Falls, which, at 165 metres high, is one of the highest in Europe. In the heart of Terni's Valnerina valley lies the spectacular Marmore waterfall, located in the evocative Nera River Park, also known as the "Parco delle Acque". This protected area preserves an environment of extraordinary naturalistic value, where history, culture and landscape are uniquely intertwined. Few people know that the waterfall is actually a masterpiece of Roman engineering: its origin dates back to 271 B.C., when the Romans dug the Curiano Canal to drain the waters of the Rieti swamp. Over the centuries, further interventions were carried out that led to the current configuration with its iconic three jumps, making it one of the highest artificial waterfalls in Europe today. The power and beauty of this place have fascinated travellers, artists and writers for centuries. At the same time, the waterfall played a key role in the area's industrial development through hydroelectric power. Today it is considered a true natural paradise, with a rich botanical biodiversity and spectacular landscapes in every season. During the visit, you will have free time to explore the park's scenic paths on your own, stop at the most suggestive spots to admire the waterfall, relax with a coffee at one of the refreshment points, buy some souvenirs and take some wonderful photographs to take with you as a souvenir of one of Umbria's most fascinating places. Entrance ticket included (no guided tour).

13:00 - New Year's Day lunch in a local restaurant in the Valnerina, full menu and drinks included.

In the early afternoon we reach Spoleto, where we will meet the tour guide who will accompany us on a discovery of one of Umbria's most fascinating cities. Picturesque and austere, Spoleto preserves a very ancient history and is one of the most important tourist centres in the region, famous not only for its extraordinary monuments - Roman, early mediaeval and Renaissance - but also for the prestigious cultural events that come to life here. Nestled in the heart of the Spoleto valley, the city has become over time one of the symbols of Umbria: a land of evocative landscapes, refined art and atmospheres steeped in poetry and spirituality. The ancient capital of the Lombard dukes, Spoleto will captivate visitors with the incredible wealth of its historical and artistic heritage. During the guided tour we will admire some of its most emblematic places: the majestic Rocca Albornoziana, the suggestive Ponte delle Torri suspended between the hills, the Roman Theatre of Spoleto and the scenic Piazza del Duomo di Spoleto, the monumental heart of the city. A fascinating itinerary through history, art and unforgettable views, discovering the most authentic soul of Spoleto.

18:00 LIVING Nativity Played in BETTONA

During the Christmas period, Bettona becomes magic, love, theatre and stages a unique work. In the heart of the historical centre of Bettona, amidst medieval alleys and squares dating back to the 13th and 14th centuries, one of Umbria's most evocative nativity scenes comes to life. Born in 2008 from the idea of a group of people from Bettona, the Living Crib transforms the ancient village into an exciting journey through history and tradition. Through an evocative walk through the village, visitors discover 22 scenes that tell the poetry of the Nativity and the daily life of the past, including ancient trades that have now disappeared and symbolic moments of the birth of Jesus. More than 150 costumed figures animate the village, bringing to life shepherds, craftsmen and historical workshops - from the blacksmith to the baker, from the dyer to the rope-maker - accompanying the public all the way to the hut, in search of the light of the world: the Baby Jesus.

7:45 pm - Departure by Gran Turismo bus to the hotel with a stop for dinner at a trattoria near Assisi. Dinner with traditional Umbrian menu and drinks included. Return to the hotel and overnight stay.

Guided tour of Spello, lunch and visit to Gubbio with the world's largest tree

Day 3 - 02 JANUARY 2027

VISIT OF SPELLO & GUBBIO - THE WORLD'S LARGEST CHRISTMAS TREE

Breakfast at the hotel and departure by bus to Spello, meeting with the guide and guided tour of the town.

The Consular Gate marks the entrance to the town of Spello or, as Julius Caesar called it, the Splendidissima Colonia Julia, an enchanting village of Roman origin, counted among the most beautiful villages in Italy, thanks to its rich environmental, cultural and artistic heritage. Spello still preserves traces of its historical past with its ancient walls and Properzio Towers protecting Porta Venere, another access point to the town. The church of Santa Maria Maggiore can be reached by strolling through charming alleys and ancient streets, along which flowered balconies overlook the town and which, with the passage of time, have become true symbols of the town, and still remain one of its most sought-after attractions. The church houses an artistic treasure inside: the Baglioni Chapel, with Deruta majolica floor tiles and frescoes by Pinturicchio. Spello also boasts a very rich Pinacoteca and, just outside the walls, a marvellous museum complex known as the "Villa Dei Mosaici", which has unearthed 500 square metres of precious mosaics whose central theme is the grape harvest and wine. Lunch in a local restaurant with drinks included.

14:30 - Meeting with the driver and departure for Gubbio. At approximately 15:30, meeting with the tour guide for a guided tour of the city.

Gubbio is a city with a very ancient history: its roots go back as far as Palaeolithic times. The city is an incredible open-air museum, which in 1375 gave birth to one of the most influential Umbrian artists: Ottaviano Nelli, painter and miniaturist. In Gubbio you can breathe history from every stone and there are many traces of its glorious past: the Roman Theatre from the 1st century AD, the Basilica of Sant'Ubaldo which dominates the city and houses the remains of the saint, the patron saint of Gubbio, Piazza Grande, the Gothic Cathedral, the Ducal Palace, the Church of Santa Maria Nuova which houses the fresco 'La Madonna del Belvedere' by Ottaviano Nelli. In the Palazzo dei Consoli, seat of the Pinacoteca Civica, we find the 'Tavole Eugubine', seven bronze tablets bearing inscriptions in Umbrian characters from the 3rd and 2nd centuries B.C. and Latin characters from the 2nd and 1st centuries B.C., very important documents for the history of the Italic peoples.

Gubbio and Christmas are a union that has lasted since 1981, when it was decided to install a Christmas Tree on the slopes of Monte Ingino in honour of the city's patron saint, St Ubaldo. A tree more than 750 metres high, with a base of 450 metres, a total area of about 130,000 m² (about thirty football pitches), more than 700 lighting points, and at the top a 1,000 m² star designed by another 250 luminaries. Such an achievement could certainly not go unnoticed and in fact in 1991 the Gubbio Tree entered the Guinness Book of Records as The World's Largest Christmas Tree. Stroll through the old town centre and markets: Father Christmas's House, Father Christmas's Passage, skating rink, nativity scenes on display, musical events, market with wooden boxes and gazebos.

6 pm - Switch-on of the impressive light installation, time for photos and departure for a tasty typical Umbrian dinner .

Return to the hotel and overnight stay. END OF BUS SERVICES.
