Maravalle Franciosini 1897 is the result of painstaking work and careful selection in the vineyard, as if to identify the specific vines that will give life to this wine, which harmoniously encompasses all the varieties grown in Vitalonga.
The grapes selected for the production of Maravalle Franciosini 1897 come from vineyards at 450 metres above sea level, where the soil is characterised by a clayey-sandy texture. The grapes of the five varieties that together contribute to the symphony of this wine are selected from year to year in the best areas of the vineyards according to the seasonal trend, with the selections being carefully cultivated by hand.
Terra di Confine is produced in the northernmost vineyards, where the medium-textured clayey-sandy soil, altitude, exposure and microclimate give the harmonious variety structure and complexity, enhancing the softness and elegance of the tannins, while the raisining part, the result of research that found its reason in the 2013 vintage, gives a well-balanced sweetness, revealing intense hints of ripe red fruit on the nose. Terra di Confine has an intense ruby red colour, with slight violet hues. The nose is complex, with notes of cherry jam, small berries, nutmeg and cinnamon. In the mouth it is rich, persistent, caressing, with dense and soft tannins. A wine of great depth, destined for ageing.
Terra di confine, the name by which the ancestors of the Maravalle family called the wine of the estate they produced in the Etruscan cave that became a cellar in the 19th century, indicates the peculiar characteristic of the Ficulle area, where in addition to the geographical position on the border between Umbria and Tuscany, once the heart of eastern Etruria, the calcareous-clayey soil of sedimentary origin marks the difference with the volcanic soil of the Orvieto area.
Terra di confine, nome con cui gli antenati della famiglia Maravalle chiamavano il vino della tenuta che producevano nella grotta etrusca divenuta cantina nell’800, indica la caratteristica peculiare della zona di Ficulle, dove oltre alla posizione geografica al confine dell’Umbria con la toscana, un tempo cuore dell’etruria orientale, il suolo calcareo-argilloso di origine sedimentaria segna la differenza con il suolo vulcanico dell’orvietano. Dal colore rosso rubino intenso, con lievi sfumature violacee. Al naso è complesso, con note di confettura di ciliegie, piccoli frutti di bosco, noce moscata e cannella. . In bocca è ricco, persistente, carezzevole, con tannini fitti e morbidi. Un vino di grande spessore, destinato all’invecchiamento. Una piccola parte delle uve è stata selezionata e avviata all’appassimento prima del processo di vinificazione. La massa d’uva, dopo la diraspatura e la pigiatura soffice, ha iniziato una macerazione a freddo, seguita dalla fermentazione per 21 giorni in vasche di acciaio inox a temperatura controllata.
Elcione prende il nome dalla secolare quercia che domina l’omonima vigna Vitalonga, circondata da boschi di leccio, lambita dalla via romea, via privilegiata dai pellegrini diretti a Roma, dove il terreno è caratterizzato da argille rosse e particolarmente ricco di conchiglie fossili. Nell’Elcione, Merlot e Cabernet si fondono insieme al Sangiovese, mostrando un’anima umbra che aggiunge fascino e magia al sapore internazionale del taglio bordolese.
Il colore è rosso rubino deciso, al naso è affascinante ed elegante con note di frutti di bosco, amarena e spezie. In bocca mostra eleganza, mineralità e grande piacevolezza nei sapori di ribes e grafite. L’ottimo spessore organolettico e il corredo polifenolico assicurano un’ottima bevibilità che può anche migliorare anno dopo anno.
Una volta arrivate in cantina, le uve sono state diraspate, pigiate sofficemente e successivamente il mosto ha avuto una svinatura del 10%. La fermentazione in tini di acciaio inox a temperatura controllata è durata due settimane, durante le quali sono stati effettuati vari rimontaggi. Dopo la svinatura, il vino ha completato la fermentazione malolattica direttamente in barrique di rovere francese, dove è rimasto per circa sei mesi.
Montenibbio, the mountain of the royal falcon, is the highest peak in the Ficulle area, from whose flanks stretches the hill where the Vitalonga vineyards are located. Montenibbio combines the roundness and softness of Merlot with the structure and elegance of Sangiovese.
Intense ruby red with slight violet hues; the nose is luminous, complex in its red fruit sensations, slightly spicy in the mouth, the tannic texture generates creamy and harmonious sensations. It is a round wine of great elegance.
The grapes are grown mainly in vineyards at 1200/1300 feet above sea level. The soil, rich in fossil shells, is one of the components of an ecosystem that enhances the territorial characteristics of the varieties.
Chardonnay, the international grape variety cultivated on the hills surrounding Vitalonga, gives life to this elegant and complex wine. This wine can age over time, thanks to a short passage of three months in second-passage French oak barrels. The first vintage of Vitalonga Chardonnay was the 2016 vintage.
Straw yellow in colour, Vitalonga Chardonnay offers delicate aromas of ripe tropical fruit along with slight hints of citrus. The palate is elegant and well-structured, characterised by classic mineral sensations and light notes of hazelnut butter. It expresses rich, complex and intense vanilla aromas, showing both structure and elegance, an invigorating acidity and a pleasantly savoury finish and aftertaste.
The grapes were harvested during the early hours of the morning to ensure that the berries arriving at the winery were fully intact and healthy, not stressed by the high daytime temperatures. After a brief four-hour period of skin contact at 10° Celsius (50° Fahrenheit), the must went into stainless steel tanks before entering French oak barrels. Alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks.
An unusual rosé wine, made from a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The selection of this wine comes from a vineyard surprisingly rich in fossil shells, a characteristic of the soil that gives it a pleasant and original flavour.
Intense salmon pink colour, generous aromas of black cherry, strawberry jam and wild herbs. This wine is fresh, with layers of bright fruit flavour, lively acidity and defining minerality culminating in a long, balanced finish. This wine is unusually full-bodied, fresh and versatile with a fine bouquet, adaptable to original pairings. The grapes were harvested during the early hours of the morning to ensure that the berries arriving at the winery were fully intact and healthy, not stressed by the high daytime temperatures. Cold maceration at a controlled temperature for 48 hours. Alcoholic fermentation, without skins, took place in stainless steel tanks.
