HISTORY

During the Middle Ages, several fortifications were built in the mountains of Spoleto, including the castle of Pupaggi, which changed urbanistically over the following centuries as a sort of fortified village due to its geographical location. One can see the characteristic basements dating back to the 11th century, which have been fully recovered with their unsquared stone vaults. The castle was also important in recent times as a hunting lodge for Palombe hunting parties. Due to its historical and architectural importance, it has been listed by the Ministry of Heritage and Activities.
