The path enters the suggestive 'Mother of Beeches' forest where, as the name suggests, imposing, centuries-old beeches with their characteristic and majestic roots are the undisputed lords of the place. The 'Fonte dell'Acqua Fredda' (1015 m), here the spring water provides refreshment before channelling into a small stream. The wide meadow of Pian delle Macinare (1150 m), a depression of karstic origin, where you can stop at the Mainardi refuge and taste typical local products. From the rocky walls of the 'Passo del Lupo' (1145 m), a small flat area opens up beyond which the walls of M. Cucco overhang the Forra di Rio Freddo. The environment that one crosses is cool and relaxing: the shade of the beeches joins the slow flow of the waters on a winding and stony bed, originating small waterfalls at times.
