In Umbria, olive cultivation is among the oldest in Italy, since the first to cultivate this fruit-bearing plant were the Etruscans. Extra virgin olive oil has become one of the main treasures of the Umbrian land and there is no place that is not characterised by the presence of olive trees. The company, located at the foot of the Marfuga hill, comes from an ancient family of farmers. Evidence such as a unit of measurement of sales, marked by the Papal State, found in the company warehouses, proves that as early as 1817, they sold oil from their own olive groves and that as early as the early 1900s, my great-grandfather Domenico was already shipping the precious nectar in glass demijohns to families in northern Italy, as evidenced by some railway transport documents found in the family archives. The first development came thanks to the will of Ettore, who in the years of the agricultural crisis (around 1950/'60), while pursuing a career in banking, was able, with stubbornness and sacrifices, to acquire new olive groves over the years and, in 1976, to build a new oil mill. The entry into the company of Ettore's son Francesco and his wife Federica in the late 1990s coincided with the creation of the MARFUGA brand and the construction of the new company centre. Production quality has been matched by an incisive commercial policy oriented towards qualified catering, the most important gastronomic realities in Italy and around the world. Today, MARFUGA is not only the production of excellent oil, but a broader project, aimed at enhancing the territory and the cultural dissemination of the world of oil.

The extra virgin olive oil PDO Umbria RISERVA MARFUGA is obtained from selected olives (Moraiolo and Frantoio), harvested exclusively by hand picking in the olive groves owned by the territory of Campello sul Clitunno and Trevi. The olives are processed in the family mill, slightly in advance of the right degree of ripeness. The chemical and organoleptic characteristics that distinguish the product are: an intense green colour with a fresh, herbaceous perfume, with dominant notes of artichoke and thistle; the flavour is ample, with a balanced bitter and spicy note and a great complexity of vegetal scents with scents of green almonds at the end.
